BreastPump Mama Welcomes Hygeia in Campaign to Clear Used Breast Pumps

BreastPump Mama, manufacturer of the VersaPed® foot-powered breast pump, welcomes Hygeia in joining us in questioning the sanity (and possibly ulterior motives) of large electric breast pump companies banning the return of very pricey breast pumps.  There is, of course, no way to test drive a breast pump, and if a mother lays out good hard earned money, up to several hundred dollars, for a table top electric model, she has a right to expect it to work for her, or to return it if it doesn’t.

BreastPump Mama has been questioning for years now the subtle smear campaign (even legal petitions) by big breast pump companies against used breast pumps.   It does not just affect ineffective new breast pumps, but also the after market of used breast pumps on sites like eBay and Craigslist, where mothers try to recover some of their money, because even if an overpriced breast pump works perfectly well for a mom, it is unlikely she will need it for more than a few months.

What most new mothers and possibly politicians new to the field might not realize is that breast pumps have been manufactured to be repeatedly sterilized, over and over again, for many years.  What began long ago as a successful marketing feature, repeated sterilization, is now standard in all modern breast pumps.  Any part that comes in contact with the mother, any part that comes in contact with the breast milk, and any part that comes in contact with the baby, goes right into a dishwasher, stove-top boiling pot, or hot steam sterilizer. Even breast pumps designated as “single user” are manufactured to be repeatedly sterilized, between each use.  So we know that even the term “single user breast pump” is an artificial designation.  There is no believable reason for this, if the item can be repeatedly sterilized.

What has happened here is that big breast pump companies are financially threatened, by the very success of their own products!

BreastPump Mama sanely serves breastfeeding mothers by offering the VersaPed® foot-pedal, which adapts the flange & tubing set of all brands of table-top electric breast pumps to foot-power.    Since flange & tubing sets are often sold separately from their machines, which are sold or even rented (like Cadillacs) separately, what makes better sense than simply replacing the priciest part with a simple foot-pedal?  The VersaPed® foot-pedal offers many advantages over an electric machine, such as full control of the suction cycle, silence of use, elimination of the need for either batteries or an outlet with privacy, and light weight-take anywhere convenience.

We believe in mothers’ own common sense!

Thursday, 24 September 2009, 1:30 | Category : Uncategorized

I like to read newsletters from NaturalNews.com, which covers a wide range of topics, and today’s had an outstanding article on the stunningly large effect having breastfed, even for a short while, has on reducing the incidence of breast cancer in women whose family histories put them at high risk for developing it.

There is not much I can add to this excellent news, so I’ll just let you read it.

Spread the word!
